Abstract

What a clever way to illustrate a car! On the cover you see a red “L” shape with two black “O”s underneath it. Very simple, but they DO look like a car! The car leans forward and you see it’s speeding. The car bends backward and you know it has hit a break. The subtle change in the O shape is so expressive that you can easily imagine what the car is “feeling.” The title, an onomatopoeia of a speeding car is repeated on several pages as the car travels on the road, slopes, over a bridge and a mountain. The story and text are simple but full of happy rhythm, making it easy for young readers to enjoy the book in various ways. Let’s go and enjoy the drive in this wonderful book!
