Abstract

This field guide provides details of 150 species of seashells which one can collect on beach. Not only the shells in perfect condition, this book shows the numerous photographs of shells worn out or broken after a long journey to the beach. Furthermore, it includes the real scale images of all species. Each article includes description of the seashell’s various features, its distribution, its habitat, and the place one can collect the species. Readers can easily identify the shells they found with the help of this field guide. In addition, the authors also explain what one should prepare and pay attention for visiting beach and bring back the collection. Author’s Information

Hitoshi Ikeda was former chief director of the Hayama Shiosai Museum. He specializes in marine biology, and is a member of the Malacological Society of Japan. He has been collecting seashells for more than 50 years and is an author of numerous books in area of seashells and beachcombing.
Yoji Matsuzawa is a photographer especially known for the photographs of underwater creatures. He also takes specimen photos for field guides. He is an author of numerous books concerning fish and other underwater creatures.
