"Kirie" is the art of cutting designs out of a single sheet of paper with a cutter or scissors. From simple silhouettes to vibrant stained-glass-style designs, there is a wide variety to choose from, and finished works and posters are popular as interior decorations. This book is an introductory guide for those trying kirie for the first time, using relatively easy-to-obtain tools. The instructor is the popular kirie artist, Teppei Hayakawa, a young artist who has gained popularity for his wide range of work. The book clearly explains each step with photographs, such as "how to hold the cutter" and "how to use a ruler." You can start with relatively easy-to-obtain tools such as a cutter and cutting mat, and use the designs included in this book, so even complete beginners can do it. Author’s Information

A papercutting artist. Born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1982. He began papercutting after playing with papercutting with his mother when he was little. Based at the foot of Mount Ibuki in Shiga Prefecture, he freely depicts the nature and wild animals he encounters every day. Beyond precise papercutting works, he is exploring new possibilities in papercutting expression by creating large-scale installations and light displays.
