Abstract
The TOEFL iBT® Test underwent a major overhaul in January 2026, with significant changes to both question formats and content. As a result, conventional preparation books are no longer sufficient for effective test preparation. This series provides detailed guidance on the new test, including its question formats and content, strategies for tackling each question type, and effective study methods. It is designed to meet the needs of test takers who have been preparing over the long term, particularly those planning to study abroad.
To address the diverse needs of individual test takers, the series consists of three volumes: "Introductory & Elementary," "Intermediate & Advanced," and "Advanced." Each volume is tailored to different target scores and proficiency levels, enabling learners to build their skills steadily and effectively.
Author Yuuki Yamauchi earned a perfect score on the TOEFL iBT® Test and is one of Japan's leading experts on TOEFL preparation. For many years, he has taught TOEFL courses while extensively researching and analyzing the test and writing preparation books. Drawing on his thorough research and analysis, each book in the series has been carefully designed to provide learners at every level with reliable and effective preparation.
"Advanced," the third volume in the series, is primarily designed for test takers aiming for scores of 5.5–6 on the new TOEFL iBT® score scale. The questions, sample answers, practice exercises, and explanations are all tailored to this level, enabling learners to progress steadily toward their target scores. The book also provides detailed guidance on every step of the testing process, from registration and advance preparation to what to expect on test day and how to send scores afterward, helping test takers approach the exam with confidence.
The book begins with an overview of the content and structure of the new TOEFL iBT® Test. In the "Sample Questions and Strategies" section, learners work through actual-style questions for each test section to familiarize themselves with the new question formats and learn effective approaches to answering them. They then take a full practice test to assess their progress and current level.
As a special bonus, readers also receive access to one web-based practice test, allowing them to experience the computer-based testing environment under conditions similar to the actual exam. Additional downloadable learning resources include a video overview of the key features of the new test format and strategy videos for each section.
