Born in 1983. Debuted in 2016 with "Ao ga Yabureru" (The Blue Breaks), which won the Bungei Prize. In 2019, he won the Akutagawa Prize for "1R 1 minute 34 seconds", the Noma Literary Newcomer's Prize in 2022 for "Hon no Kodomo", the Kawabata Yasunari Literary Prize in 2024 for "Watashi no Hihyo", the Oda Sakunosuke Prize for "Ikiru Engi", and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for Artistic Excellence in 2025 for "Watashi no Shosetsu" . Other works include "Shiki", "Chopin Zombie Contest", and "Seikatsu".
