Abstract

The author is a world-class life scientist and research collaborator of the Nobel Prize winner. Reading this book, you can learn life from introductory to cutting-edge levels.
Recommended by Mr.Yoshinori Osumi, a winner of 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and Mr. Makoto Naruke, former CEO of Microsoft Japan!!

In the era when science has progressed too far, this book offers a basic education to think by yourself without getting confused.
Now is said to be 100-year-life era, but that is simply our lifetime has been extended. The reality is that we have to live many years lying bedridden or developing Alzheimer’s. However, life science has been progressing every day to “be healthy until moments before dying”.
In this book, the world-class life scientist explains in an extremely an easy-to-understand manner antibodies and viruses and basics of life science such as cells, as well as cutting-edge insights.

Since “cells” are the first to be aggravated in any disease, by understanding underlying cells as a first step, you will be able to understand various matters related to “bodies”, when you finish reading this book.

The author is the world authority on “autophagy” that won the Nobel Prize in 2016 to become a hot topic. Understanding autophagy, you can naturally learn the front-line research on diseases, as “the function to renew cells” may make it “possible to eliminate Alzheimer’s and lifestyle diseases”.
Since there were not many options for medical care in the past, you did not have to know, but today, life science is involved not only in medical care but also in daily life and you can not make judgement yourself unless you learn it once.

This book is designed for readers to acquire “scientific thinking” as go on reading. By when finishing reading this book, you must be acquiring the ability to detect justness and not to be deceived by fake science and news.

He was appointed Professor Emeritus at Osaka University in 2017 and Dean of the Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences in 2018.

After graduating from the Department of Biology, School of Science, Osaka University, he dropped out of the Graduate School of Medicine, worked as an assistant professor at a private university, and studied in Germany. In 1996, he joined as an associate professor at the National Institute for Basic Biology when autophagy research pioneer Yoshinori Ohsumi (2016 Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine) established his lab there. He became a professor at the National Institute of Genetics and then at the Osaka University Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, where he currently serves.

He is a wanderer who has moved from place to place. He was fascinated by the "universe inside cells" and spent over 40 years immersed in basic research, where his research may or may not be useful, without ever being certain whether he was cut out for it. He has been involved in autophagy research since its early days, and is deeply moved by the unexpected developments it is experiencing. His many hobbies include marathons, trail running, shoe polishing, bonfires, Perfume, cloud watching, visiting art museums around the world, and collecting rubber ducks.
