Abstract
Haiku, a form of poetry with a 5-7-5 syllable structure imbued with a sense of the seasons and emotion, has been cherished by many Japanese people since ancient times. Its appeal is now spreading not only within Japan but also overseas. Haiku uses "seasonal words," or kigo, which are words that evoke a sense of the seasons.
