Abstract
The long-awaited "Buddhist Statues" is now available in the "Japanese Etiquette Guide" series. Buddhist statues were created to convey Buddhist teachings and serve as objects of worship. Even today, it is common practice to visit temples for Hatsumode (first shrine visit of the New Year) and to visit temples as a tourist to pay respects to Buddhist statues. Buddhist statues are not only found in temples, but also enshrined along roadsides as Jizo statues, showing how deeply integrated they are into the lives of Japanese people. This book explains the basic appearance and characteristics of various Buddhist statues. Please enjoy the beautiful images of Buddhist statues enshrined throughout Japan.
