Abstract
Unraveling the Mechanisms of Price Increases with the "Price Equation"!
Why have chocolate and coffee become so expensive? Why have saury disappeared, why are concert tickets rising in price, and why are rents and iPhones getting more expensive every year? The answers lie all in "price"!
Written by a journalist who has tracked prices for the Nikkei for many years, this book uses the prices of familiar goods and services—from rent, coffee, saury, orange juice, fan activities, subscriptions, diamonds, semiconductors, and EVs—as a starting point to unravel the workings of the global economy.
The factors behind price increases and decreases are visualized in a simple form called the "Price Equation." This is a "new economic literacy book" that allows you to understand the world from a single receipt.
▼What you will learn in this book:
- Why climate change is rewriting the price tags on our tables
- The real reasons why people pay for fan activities and concerts
- How subscriptions are changing our behavior
- The global competition surrounding semiconductors, AI, and EVs
- The "ability to see prices" to survive in an era of rising prices
