Abstract

Born in 1931. Religious studies researcher. Graduated from the Department of Indo-European Philosophy, Faculty of Letters, Tohoku University. He has been an associate professor of the Faculty of Letters at Tohoku University, a professor at the National Museum of Japanese History, a professor at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies, and the director of the same center. He is the author of many books, including "Kukai no Kuwadate" (Kukai's Plan), "Aiyoku no Seishinshi" (The intellectual History of Lust), "Shimatsu" (The End of the World) and "Shisha to Senzo no Hanashi" (Stories of the Dead and the Ancestors) and so on.
