Abstract
Kogin Zashi is one of the embroidery techniques that originated in Tsugaru region, located in Northeast Japan. The small elements of traditional patterns are called “modoko,” and by combining “modoko,” you can create repeating designs or unique patterns of your own. This book is a collection of Kogin Zashi charts, perfect for those who would like to find favourite patterns for their embroidery works, or for those who would like to know and try many more patterns. Contains full-colour photographs of stitches on fabrics, as well as patterns drawn with bold lines on grid charts, in order to clearly show how they look on fabrics. Introduces basic kinds of “modoko” such as “kacharazu,” “uroko,” or “tekona,” and the offers tips on how to present them on your projects, like surrounding the pattern with simple lines, or arranging the small elements in a frame shape, or placing one element partially on top of another element, so that you can enjoy Kogin Zashi much more. The author, UEKI TOMOKO, is a very popular designer, and she provides her original patterns in this book, too.
