This is the first “illustrated reference book of scales” that covers various species of fish, reptiles, and birds, including mammals
like pangolins and armadillos.
This book contains a total of five hundred photographs, and more than half of those are new!
This book also explains the secrets of each animal’s scales from several angles: evolution, function, and structure.
The graphical reference consists of up-close photographs of each creature’s scales along with beautiful photographs of each creature.
Close examination of scales – not just those of giant creatures like crocodiles and huge snakes whose skins are often used for bags and ornamental purposes, but also those of more familiar species like carp, Crucian carp, striped snakes and even chickens (their leg epidermis) – reveal their uniqueness AND purpose. Experts offer in-depth commentaries that cover a wide range of knowledge concerning each species.
