Abstract

Winner of the 1st Sogen Fantasy Award for New Writers.

In Lavarta, a country where witches and wizards are harshly repressed for their magic powers.
A boy from the “Iron Fortress” is handed over to Leon, a third rate wizard who owns a small school for children with magic powers, where budding witches and wizards are expected to learn how to live discreetly and to control their magic powers. The Iron Fortress is an institution set up by witches and wizards, controlled by and expected to work for the King of Lavarta, and being part of the fortress is the highest status that those with magic can hope for.
The boy entrusted to Leon, Zecks, whose family was killed by a Lavarta knight, potentially has an unheard of amount of magic in him, but refuses to learn to use or control his powers. At first untrusting and dubious, Zecks learns to trust Leon, and together, Zecks’ magical powers flourish. Zecks’s talent catches the eye of the Iron Fortress, and Zecks is called upon to train as a first rate wizard at the Fortress, where he meets a fellow trainee Astor, a wizard obviously from an aristocratic family. Zecks befriending Astor starts changing the fate of Zecks, his friends, and Larvata itself.

First of a four title series.
Now made into a popular comic series published from Mag-garden. The comic series is translated into French and Korean.
