Abstract

The author has been teaching how to draw manga in university classes for many years while working as a professional manga artist. This book is a collection of those skills.
One of the features of this book is that the author has created a new manga for this book. The process is generously disclosed for the purpose of a "manga production reference book.
The book not only teaches how to draw (sketching) and set up characters, but also how to think about mechanics, how to draw background layouts including perspective, what is most important in writing and penmanship, and even tips on color coloring.
Even if a professional gives explanations for each sample, it is still difficult to grasp how to best present the numerous patterns that are linked to the story. For this reason, this book provides a number of explanations with the orientation of showing the process of trial and error, ingenuity, and the final draft in concrete terms by finishing actual manga.

Yutaka Akatsu
A manga artist and illustrator who made his debut in 2000 with a comic strip, he has been active in a wide range of fields, including character design, illustration, manga serialization, games, advertising, and animation. He has also been involved in overseas content work, and has worked as a part-time lecturer at universities.
