【Excerpt from Introduction】
The purpose of this book is to concretely present the way to realize innovation, in other words, the way to create and practice knowledge. The way is “creation of place for co-creation originated from good objectives and thoughts by field leaders (horizontal relationship)” or “collective practical power to realize objectives and thoughts (vertical relationship)”, and the combination of these should be the key concept to create and move organizations initiating innovation.

This book concretely explains on this key concept by giving the case studies of the organizations that succeeded in creating “structure to deliver” innovative services. The case studies consist of “narrative” that vividly describes the people involved who play a role as leader and “commentary” that concretely sets out points of the key concept. This approach helps readers to feel the case studies as much familiar to themselves as possible and think them as their own business. We expect that by having both subjective viewpoint from the people involved in the case studies and bird’s-eye viewpoint, readers will be able to practice as a leader and deepen their understanding on “organizational knowledge creation” in management.

This book also focuses on for initiating innovation how we organizationally create knowledge and intelligence which serve as particularly important business resources in the modern society. How to encourage organizations to exercise their creative power. How to generate new values. How to keep on initiating innovation.

It is impossible to initiate innovation by traditional approach of the business science such as differentiation by positioning in the market or the industry and improvement of efficiency by maximum use of organization resources. Innovation is to break the existing static balance. Putting in other words, innovation sees oppositions and conflicts as binary dynamics of “both that and this” to offer chances depending on the situation, not as binary oppositions of “either that or this” and overcomes them by creating a win-win situation. At the same time, innovation is to commercially and industrially connect new knowledge. Innovation is being initiated by combining wide variety of knowledge.

As the case studies in this book reveal, various organizations continue to create new values in each field. By specifically knowing “creation of place for co-creation” and “collective practical power” that are explained by the narrative and the commentary, we believe you will learn something that can be practically applied in your daily business.
