Abstract
In this volume, popular papercutting artist Mihoko "garden" Kurihara transforms famous ukiyo-e artwork into papercutting designs. Includes patterns for 20 ukiyo-e masterpieces, from landscapes of the Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, One Hundred Famous Views of Tokyo, and The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido to Hishikawa Moronobu's A Beauty Looking Over Her Shoulder and Sharaku's portraits of Kabuki actors - plus lots of smaller patterns for recreating Utagawa Kuniyoshi's adorable cats, Hokusai's sketches, and other plant and animal images that delighted the common people of the Edo era (1603 - 1868), when ukiyo-e flourished.
