Abstract

This is the first artwork publication of Shuichi Kusamori, a leading animation art director. The astonishingly intricate, hand drawn artwork emanates from Kusamori’s original worldview. All artwork presented in this book is inspired by Fuyu no Oh by Ogai Mori, a highly regarded Japanese novelist.

Artwork and Writing / Shuichi Kusamori
Kusamori was art director for the animated feature films: Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and Metropolis. He was also art director for the animated television series, PSYCHO-PASS. A TV commercial directed by Kusamori, “ASIENCE~kami wa onna no inochi (ASIENCE~Hair is the Heart of a Women)” -- for Kao Corporation’s “ASIENCE” line of shampoo -- won the Gold Award at the London International Advertising Awards. Kusamori has also been involved in promotional video production as an art director for Hikaru Utada’s Traveling.

Original Writing / Ogai Mori
Born in 1862, Shimane prefecture, Japan. Mori studied abroad in Germany after graduating from university. After returning from Germany, while holding the position of Japanese Army Surgeon general officer, Mori produced a number of literary works. Also, Mori translated German literature into Japanese and became an avid contributor of literary reviews, a play write, and a producer of journal articles. Mori translated Erling by Hans Land. It is included in Mori’s collected translation works published in 1913.
