Abstract

Best selected 30 heritage sites in East Japan are introduced with illustrations, including Tokyo Station celebrating its 100th anniversary, Tomioka Silk Mill representing the masterpiece of modernization, Ise Shrine which used to be the latest architecture in ancient times, and Sannai-Maruyama archeological site.

Japan’s scenic beauty and historical sites such as Mt. Fuji and Tomioka Silk Mill are booming again since they were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Those World Heritage sites are breathtakingly beautiful for sure, but there are many other historical sites that you don’t want to miss in Japan whether they are or will be registered on the World Heritage list. Why not start from rediscovering Japanese legacy by actually visiting there?

The writer Tatsuo Iso and the illustrator Hiroshi Miyazawa went on a trip to visit “Japanese Heritage” sites in East Japan and reported on the 30 best sites they were especially impressed with.
