Abstract

Tourist trains are currently in the boom. Unique and creative trains are running in the tourist destinations all over Japan. The purpose of the trip is now shifting from just “moving” locations by train, but to “ride” on the train itself, and these kinds of trip is gaining popularity. A good example is JR Kyushu’s excursion train “Nanatsuboshi (Seven Stars) in Kyushu” and luxury passenger train “ARU RESSHA”. They have been created by Eiji Mitooka, Japan’s leading expert in railway design, bringing together the Japanese tradition and design technology.
 
These tourist trains are popular among people because it is full of hospitality unique to Japan. It’s about their scenic views. It’s about the very small attention made throughout the vehicle design, too small as it may not be noticed by most of the passengers. It’s about the variety of local ingredients cooked wholeheartedly. Their concierge and smiles of the local people greeting passengers at the home station.This book is a compilation of various “Omotenashi (Hospitality)” railways in Japan.
