Abstract
Summer, 1944. Tamaru, a soldier aspiring to be a manga artist, was on the island of Peleliu in the Pacific Ocean.
It was a paradise surrounded by coral reefs and covered with beautiful forests. It was also an insane battlefield where 50,000 soldiers from Japan and the U.S. killed each other.
The 40,000 U.S. troops attacked to seize the airfield, who was said to be the best in the East, while the 10,000 Japanese garrison was ordered to "hold out." On a small island far from their homeland, what did they fight for and what did they think about?
The long-forgotten true stories of the young people who lived through the war years are now told through this book.
