Abstract
Through reporting on craftspeople, this book showcases such issues as the true pleasures of craftsmanship and the difficulties involved in handing it down to future generations. It is a book that enables readers to encounter The Way of Life of Craftsmen, which many are not familiar with.
One person from a family business in which craftsmanship has been handed down from generation to generation; another who is affiliated with a larger organization; and another who became an apprentice having moved from different profession, before moving on to practice their craft independently. Centered around interviews of three people who chose the way of life as Edo Kiriko craftspeople, this book introduces the history of Edo Kiriko (a type of cut glass that originated in the Edo era), the process involved, and the way of life of its practitioners.
(Includes English and Chinese translations.)
