Through reporting on craftspeople, this book showcases such issues as the true pleasures of craftsmanship and the difficulties involved in handing it down to future generations. It is a book that enables readers to encounter The Way of Life of Craftsmen, which many are not familiar with.
This book showcases the history and process of the Edo Komon pattern dyeing technique, and reports on two women who are the fourth generation of their longstanding family business, a traditional dyeing factory that is uncompromising in its use of old-fashioned hand dyeing. These women work as craftspeople producing Edo Komon, utilizing their sensibility. The passion for life that both women possess as craftspeople is conveyed in this book.
