Abstract

Hina Koda is a shy twenty-eight-year-old who works in a general store. She lives with the three other members of her family: her father, a brilliant if awkward pastry chef who runs Sweet Home, the town’s much-loved pastry shop, her mother, a local beauty who attracts custom to the store, and her younger sister, a colorful and outgoing character. Although Hina is in love, she can’t muster the courage to reveal her feelings to the would-be man in her life (“Sweet Home”).
Other stories include one about the tender relationship of food researcher Miki and the younger Tatsuno (“Tomorrow’s Recipe”) and an incident in which Auntie Ikko, a middle-aged woman who comes to live with the family, get unexpectedly embroiled (“A Gift of Hope”). Set in a pastry shop against the backdrop of a beautiful hill town, this collection of heartwarming short stories is the work of a truly inspirational storyteller.
