Abstract
Hana, who has spent most of her life in an orphanage, turns 18 in the summer. Supposed to move out into the wider world in spring the next year, she is devoid of any hopes and dreams for her future. In fact, she has been in a state of emotional lockdown since the age of eight, when her mother was arrested and jailed for a random act of murder. One day, a newcomer, Harumi, arrives at the orphanage. Something about the desperation with which the young girl is clasping her ragged-looking stuffed animal in her arms reminds Hana of how she once felt… This is a vibrant and moving first foray into fiction by the actor-director Sara Ogawa.
