Abstract

In 1942, when the Eastern Front between Germany and the Soviet Union was massively escalating, the daily life of Serafima, a girl living in a small suburban village of Moscow, was suddenly destroyed. Her mother Ekaterina was murdered along with their neighbors by the raid of German soldiers. Serafima was saved by a Red Army soldier, Irina. The latter asked her, "Do you want to fight or die? Serafima decided to enter the soldier's school where Irina was the teacher, to become a sniper. Her goal was to get revenge against the German army, which had murdered her mother, but she also had a complicated feeling in her heart against Irina, who had burned her mother's corpse. After hard training, Serafima was sent to the front in the Battle of Stalingrad, which became the final point of German-Soviet conflict. What appeared in Serafima's eyes as the real enemy, after seeing so many deaths?
