Abstract

Bertine is the daughter of the vizier of a small, rich country.
One day, just before her wedding, she is ordered by the king to marry Cecilio, the representative of the victorious nation, as part of the war reparations.

Bertine crosses the sea in despair and resignation, but when she arrives at the house, Cecilio is not there and the servants treat her humiliatingly.

She cannot rely on her parents or her status. I will live in this country and gain strength.
She leaves the mansion and sets out to find a way to survive in a hostile country where she is left on her own.

This is a love story that begins with a misunderstanding and a deal between a daughter with hidden business acumen and a "savage war-mad" general.
