Abstract

Multi-dyed yarns have a single thread dyed in a variety of colours, allowing beautiful colour gradations to be expressed. There are many types, including those with gently changing shades of colour, those with short intervals, and those with accent colours and clear contrasts. This book describes embroidery using step-dyed threads to express beautiful gradation changes. Detailed explanations of how the colours and patterns appear, and comparisons of the differences between different threads, make it easy to understand the finished image. The unique colour gradations expressed by step-dyed threads and the discovery of unexpected colour combinations can be enjoyed. With explanations on the basics of embroidery, basic stitches and the basics of three-dimensional embroidery, the content is easy to understand even for those new to embroidery.

Author’s Information

Embroidery artist and lecturer. Lives and works in Tokyo.
Studied stampwork embroidery while living in the UK for five and a half years, where she was involved in the production of embroidery technique books and completed a teacher certification course.
After returning to Japan in 2011, she has been teaching at a culture school and runs a class ATELIER YURI at her home and other places.
She is active in a wide range of activities, producing many three-dimensional embroidery works while incorporating her own unique techniques.
