Abstract

Castle towns lined with samurai residences and filled with the atmosphere of historical romance, and mountain villages where you can feel the original landscape of Japan. In Japan, there are still many townscapes where one can experience such history.
This book introduces such townscapes as "Mukashi-machi" (old town). Major attractions, access, etc. are introduced with abundant introductory text and photographs. All 65 locations, from the major samurai residences to the less-known, simple, and lovely mountain villages, are covered in this book, all based on our own field research.
