Scents will be remembered forever, until the end of your life.

Ichika, who used to work at a book store, started a new part-time job as a house maid at an old Western-style house. There, perfumer Saku Ogawa is working to create customized scents for customers. Clients facing various circumstances, a woman with a secret that she can’t tell anyone, parents looking for a clue to their missing daughter, visit Saku because of his extraordinary sense of smell. Being around Saku, Ichika starts to realize how lonely he is because of his genius.

This dramatic novel opens a new door of sense involving scents. Awarded the 6th Junichi Watanabe Literary Prize.

Author’s Information

Akane Chihaya was born in Hokkaido in 1979. She spent her childhood in Africa. She graduated from the faculty of literature, Ritsumeikan university in Kyoto. She made her literary debut in 2008 with "Uogami", a novel that won the 21st Shosetsu Subaru New Writer Award and the 37th Izumi Kyoka Prize for Literature. "Atokata" was published in 2013 and won the Shimase Award for Love Stories. She won the 168th Naoki Prize for "Shirogane no ha" in 2023.
