Abstract

The author served as a counselor of the Cabinet Secretariat in Japan. This book is based on lectures he gave at Waseda University.

This book comprehensively overviews the world's natural resources and energy.
It is the best textbook to understand the energy strategies of the resource superpower Russia, which is toying with the international community, Europe, which is rushing to de-Russia, the United States in the shale revolution, China, and India. It also provides an understanding of global warming, renewable energy, and other global issues.

Born in Osaka in 1960.
Graduated from Yokohama National University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and received a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University's J.F. Kennedy School of Government and a Doctor of Engineering (Environmental and Marine Engineering) from the University of Tokyo.
He joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry) in 1982. He served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Brazil, Director of the Financial Cooperation Office, Trade Policy Bureau, and Director of the Oil and Natural Gas Division, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy.
During his tenure at the Brazilian Embassy, he participated in global warming and environmental issues early on, including his work at the Japan Secretariat of the First United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Earth Summit) in 1992.
In 2007, he began lecturing on natural resources and energy at Waseda University, where he has taught for over 15 years to all faculties.
From 2013 to 2021, he served as a counselor in the Cabinet Secretariat (in charge of resource strategy) in the administrations of Shinzo Abe and Yoshihide Kan.
