Abstract
A four-frame manga depicting the everyday lives of a rabbit family and their animal
friends with a heavy dose of humor. These unique animals are the authorʼs modern
arrangement of the Scrolls of Frolicking Animals, a Japanese national treasure. Using
episodes from their daily life as examples, this work explains various aspects of vital
“manga iconography.”
Author’s Information
Born in Hiroshima in 1968. Debuted in 1995 with “Street Corner Flower News.” Her “Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms” was released in 2004 and made into a movie in 2007. “In This Corner of the World” was released in 2007–09 and made into an animated movie in 2016. This movie attracted a great deal of attention, achieving
a long-run screening of over 1000 days with more than two million viewers. Other orks include “Ballpoint Kojiki,” a manga version of the Japanese classic “Kojiki” drawn using only ballpoint pens, and “Koujin Emaki”, a collection of illustrations used for Miyuki Miyabeʼs newspaper-serialized novel “Koujin.”
