Abstract

As indicated by the main title, this book focuses on Buddhist scriptures composed of the three categories of sutras, vinaya, and treatises. The teachings that have been passed down from the time of the Buddha to the present are enormous, said to number 'eighty-four thousand'. Categorizing the content of the Buddhist scriptures that vary in the time of their establishment and the backgrounds of faith and practice, and elucidating them succinctly, we approach Buddha's world. Furthermore, we clearly describe from various perspectives how Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was interpreted and received by people in later eras.
