Abstract

Western paintings that are enduring popularity such as Van Gogh, Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Klimt. We often see photographs of works by famous painters and well-known masterpieces, and when the actual works are exhibited, long lines form at the museums where they are exhibited. However, many people are still left wondering, "Sure, it's beautiful, but what's so great about it?“ Have you ever had the feeling that "I don't even know what the painting is about?” This is because many Western paintings are based on stories and cultures that are not well known to Japanese people. If you keep that in mind, you will understand the meaning of the paintings and enjoy looking at them more. You might think “stuff about history of art or -ism, isn't it a little complicated?” But that's okay. The people depicted in famous paintings and the artists who created them are not all calm and honors-oriented types. They may act in a tongue-in-cheek manner, engage in a sordid drama, or conceal a sincere passion. Their human faces are the key to understand their works. We will introduce these unique personalities through stimulating cartoons and give you a quick overview of how to look at the paintings. Welcome to our tour of masterpieces in this book!

YouTuber with museum curator certification. Communicator Specialist, from Itami City, Hyogo Prefecture.YouTube channel subscribers: approx. 19.9 thousand. He has loved drawing since he was a child, and studied art in the art club at university, where he also began creating illustrations at that time. As a tour guide for mainly overseas trips, he travels around the world for more than half of the year, gaining a high reputation especially for touring art-related activities such as museums, etc. Since 2016, he has been holding lectures around the country to convey the beauty of art in an easy-to-understand manner. Later, due to Covid-19, he started a YouTube channel about art.
