Abstract
This book introduces the breathing techniques passed down from Shakyamuni Buddha to Chigi (Zhiyi), the founder of the Tendai sect, and then to Hakuin Ekaku, the revivalist of the Rinzai sect. It was Reisai Fujita, a monk of the Chizan School of Shingon Buddhism, who systematized this traditional Buddhist breathing method as "Harmonious Tantan Breathing Method" during the Meiji period. He believed that by practicing the breathing and enhancing the subumbilical dantian, one could not only achieve good health, but also build a life that would continue to improve even in old age.
