Abstract
"Indian Philosophy: An Annotated Journey": This book provides a comprehensive commentary on the origins of Indian philosophy, the Vedic and Upanishadic literature, free thinking (anti-Vedic, non-Brahmin thoughts), the formation of Hinduism, and the establishment of the six philosophical schools. Author’s Information
Shuyu Kanaoka
1927-2009. Born in Saitama Prefecture. Graduated from the Mongolian Department of Tokyo Foreign Studies School (now Tokyo Foreign Language University) and the Department of Indian Philosophy, Faculty of Letters, the University of Tokyo. He withdrew from the doctoral program in Indian Philosophy at the Graduate School of Humanities, the University of Tokyo. He holds a PhD in Literature from Toyo University. His specialties were Indian philosophy, Buddhist studies, and tantric studies. He served as a researcher at Okurayama Cultural Institute, a professor at the Faculty of Literature, Toyo University, and became an emeritus professor of Toyo University. He served as head priest of Myorakuji Temple (Hachioji City, Tokyo) among other positions, and received the Japan Indian and Buddhist Studies Award in 1967. He has written many books and papers.
