Abstract

NHK's popular program "The Last Lecture" features prominent figures from various fields answering the question, "What will you talk about on the last day of your life?" This book delivers the complete edition, including unpublished portions not aired on television, from the renowned sociologist Chizuko Ueno. Ueno's research began with the role of a "housewife." Her studies revealed the unpaid labor involved in housework, and she explored how responsibilities such as housework, childcare, caregiving, and nursing all fall on the shoulders of individual women. The book delves into the issues and history of women's studies and gender studies that Ueno has been researching for the sake of women's happiness. As a pioneer at the forefront of her era, Ueno's encouragement to create a society that is easier for us to live in will undoubtedly stir deep emotions.
