Abstract

In an era where retirement spans longer, how to navigate and live through these uncertain times, proposing strategies and the resolve to those carrying anxieties. Although still actively working, Ms. Sakatou published her debut work 'Women's Challenge' in 1978 (published by Shufu no Tomo Sha), writing about women's rights and positions for over 40 years. Even today, many women contribute much of their time to caregiving, housework, and childcare. Despite the contemporary ideals of gender equality and diversity, many women still face challenges with irregular employment and building a career. Concerns about post-retirement funds are also prevalent, given the low amounts provided by public pensions. In the first part, reflecting on the past 40 years of Japanese women's perspectives and career development, Ms. Sakatou explores these changes, drawing from her personal experiences. Understanding how Japanese women have evolved over the years becomes a powerful force in seeking a new way of life. To survive the 'new era,' a strong determination to overcome whatever challenges arise is indeed required. In the second part, specific hints are presented on how to navigate this 'new era.' Points like 'finding your strengths,' 'knowing when it's enough,' 'using your head more than being considerate,' 'not discarding things unnecessarily,' 'the aesthetics of endurance,' 'assets from your 50s,' 'information literacy,' 'resolve to work for a lifetime rather than saving,' 'being a person who can endure losses,' and 'tips for changing jobs.' Ms. Sakatou's words encourage a shift in perspective and serve as a protective charm to live the remaining years strongly. Ms. Sakatou sends a message, 'In your 50s and 60s, you are still young. There are endless possibilities. Do not rely on society or others to give or protect you; take responsibility for your life.' After reading, we hope you gain the courage to take the next step forward
