Author’s Information

Writer and columnist, born 1965 in Fukuoka, Japan, and has lived in Brighton, UK, since 1996. After working for a Japanese company in London for several years, she qualified as a childcare worker in the UK and began her writing career while working at a 'bottom-of-the-barrel nursery'.
In 2017, she won the 16th Shincho Document Prize for "Children's Class Struggle - From a Free Nursery in Broken Britain” (Misuzu Shobo).
In 2019, "Boku wa yellow, white and a bit blue" (Shinchosha) won the 73rd Mainichi Publishing Culture Award Special Prize, the 2nd Yahoo! News - Honya Taisho Non-Fiction Book Award, and the 7th Bukurog Award (Essay and Non-fiction category).
