Abstract

What exactly are "microbes"? Are they real? The "Microbe Vegetable Growing" initiative at a certain elementary school began with such questions. Microbes refer to soil microorganisms that break down organic waste mixed into the soil, generating fermentation heat that warms the soil. The children were surprised by this phenomenon and even more amazed by the deliciousness of the vegetables grown in such fertile soil. This non-fiction introduces how children, through vegetable cultivation, become aware of the invisible microorganisms, the cycle of life, and the importance of health.
