Abstract

In Kitakata City, Fukushima Prefecture, all public elementary schools have introduced 'Agricultural Science' as a subject, utilizing the special education zone system. Under the guidance of agriculture supporters who run farms, children learn to grow rice and vegetables, harvest them, and even cook. Why did Kitakata City integrate agriculture into education? And what is the nurturing power of agriculture? This book traces the first-of-its-kind initiative.
