Abstract

Oshima, an island located in the northeast of Miyagi Prefecture. When the island became isolated due to a tsunami, it was the small ferry 'Himawari' that came to the rescue. The story of how 'Himawari' braved the massive waves became a hot topic in media around the world. This book captures the determination of the boat's owner, Sugawara Susumu, as he strives for the island's community, and sheds light on the path to recovery from the deep scars left by the disaster.
