Abstract

I got married because it was what I wanted. So why is it so hard?

Yui, a translator, is spending a very happy moments with a man who is not her husband.
Eito, a chef, continues to see her though he is fully aware that she’s a married woman.
Emi, a pastry chef, is so annoyed her husband doesn't come home because he's seeing other women, her mother has nothing but complaints, her son is in a rebellious phase that she just can't take it anymore.
Though he adores his wife, Kei, a writer, has never had any idea how to make her happy.
I don't want the kind of affection that's like a moral obligation.
Men struggle with feeling bad when they cheat, but women just do it without even thinking about it.
I just want to be loved fiercely, so fiercely that it almost kills me.
This novel captures all the emotion and turmoil of a man and woman struggling for something more in an unhappy marriage, with overwhelming steam!
Fifteen years on from the Akutagawa Prize, don’t miss out on Ms. Kanehara latest great work.
