Abstract

The theme of this book is "Shikantaza," the essence of Dogen Zen. The path to reach this point is elaborated upon with a focus on bodily sensations. The book is structured in five chapters, each accompanied by a dialogue with an appropriate interlocutor to enhance understanding. These interlocutors are leading figures in various fields, including Rinzai Zen monks, breathwork bodywork instructors, Qigong practitioners, yoga instructors, and researchers in bodily sensation education. The book elucidates the true Mahayana meaning of "Zazen," or seated meditation, from the act of "sitting."
