Abstract
A deep guide to Kyoto, focusing on Sakyo Ward, by an author who is a Tokyoite through and through but occasionally lives in Kyoto. She bikes to coffee shops and public bathhouses near Kyoto University that Kyoto natives have recommended, and enjoys the local architecture during walks. This book presents a look at Kyoto through which both its attractiveness as a modern city and the depth of its history emerges in multiple layers.

Author’s Information
Born in 1954. After graduating from university, she worked at a PR company and a publishing company, and in 1984 she launched the local magazine Yanaka, Nezu, Sendagi. She turned her memories into records, starting with oral history. From these works came Yanaka Sketchbook and Mysterious Town Nezu (Chikuma Bunko), and later published works such as Ogai's Slope (Chuko Bunko, Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists), Shogitai Ibun (Shueisha Bunko), The Adventures of Seito (Shueisha Bunko, Murasaki Shikibu Literary Award), People in the Dark Ages, Seiko (Aki Shobo), Shiki's Sound (Shincho Bunko), and Street Portraits (Hatori Shoten). Since 2015, he has frequently stayed in Kyoto to maintain his health after a serious illness. He is the head of Yanesen Kioku no Kura.
