Abstract

Did you know that Japan's endemic bird is currently the closest to extinction? This is the Ogasawara Kawarafinch, which lives in the Ogasawara Islands. It is said to be the 11th new species in Japan, but it was also discovered that it is on the verge of extinction. It is characterized by a smaller body and a larger beak than the Japanese stonefinch found on the mainland. Since around 1995, the number has been decreasing year by year, and the number has been decreasing rapidly in the Hahajima Islands in recent years. First of all, I created a picture book because I wanted more people to know about this current situation.
