Born in Niigata Prefecture in 1972, Kushiki won the 19th Japan Horror Novel Award Readers' Prize for "Haunted Campus" in 2012. In the same year, she won the 25th Novel Subaru New Writer Award for "Aka to Shiro Red and White.
