Abstract

Who really likes tidying up? Putting things back to where they are supposed to be or straightening up a room can be so boring. But we all know it has to be done. Well, wouldn’t it be so much fun if it could be done like Tatsuya Tanaka does? Tanaka is a popular “miniature” photographer who is good at finding items in daily life to create certain scenes. He is also called a mitate artist which means likening an item to another. Creating a miniature world from untidy scenes of everyday life would be a marvelous way to tidy up!

Miniature Photographer and Mitate artist. Born 1981 in Kumamoto, Japan. Mitate is Tatsuya Tanaka’s unique art of reimagining everyday objects as something else. In 2011, he started his art project MINIATURE CALENDAR, and has been presenting his work every day on the Internet since. He has also been holding exhibitions titled “MINIATURE LIFE: Tatsuya Tanaka’s World of Miniatures” both overseas and in Japan. He is currently holding exhibitions in Japan and abroad, including “MINIATURE LIFE: Tatsuya Tanaka’s World of Miniatures,” which has attracted a total of over 2 million visitors (as of July 2023). He has over 3.7 million followers on Instagram (as of July 2023.)
