Abstract

What are your child's "good points"? This book is a picture book to help develop "resilience," the ability to live without giving in to difficulties. In fact, it has been found that a child's "good points," or "character strengths," are a great help when overcoming difficulties. However, character strengths are difficult for the child himself or herself to notice. This is because, unlike ability-based strengths such as "good at piano" or "fast runners," they are not easily visible. However, numerous studies have shown that "character strengths" are related to life satisfaction, resilience, and self-esteem. Nurturing "character strengths" will help you value your child's individuality and develop the ability to withstand difficulties and adversity. The picture book was supervised by Hiromi Adachi, representative director of the Japan Positive Education Association, and the illustrations were by popular illustrator Mizumaru Kawahara. There are 24 strengths checklists at the end of the book.
