Abstract

This book will help you easily draw characters that are likely to appear in full-scale manga and anime by simply tracing the lines of sample models called "pose models." The instructors are four professional creators, including manga artists and character designers, who are active professors and lecturers at the only anime and manga department in Japan. The book explains using the method that they actually use in their classes. The pose models are original and comprehensive, covering all the models necessary for manga characters, such as male and female faces (frontal oblique, realistic, deformed, etc.), whole bodies (standing, sitting, various poses), upper bodies (arms crossed, etc.), mob scenes (running, jumping, kicking a ball, etc.), scenes of two people holding hands, parts and accessories such as hands and feet. There are also examples by teachers, so tracing these is a shortcut. It takes about 20 minutes to trace one character. There are also many sample works drawn by current students, so you can get realistic ideas from the same perspective as yourself, and anyone is sure to improve. This is a one-of-a-kind, luxurious introductory book to manga characters.

Hidaka Tomokichi: Manga artist, illustrator and writer. Lecturer at the School of Anime and Manga, Kaisi University of Professional Studies. Member of the Japan Cartoonists Association and the Japan Science Fiction Writers Club. His books include "I'm Working at an Aquarium" (KADOKAWA/Media Factory) and many others, including illustrations and game idea contributions.
Takayama Mizuho: Manga artist. Lecturer at the School of Anime and Manga, Kaisi University of Professional Studies. As an animator, he worked on "Mobile Suit Z Gundam" and "Armored Trooper Votoms", and after becoming a manga artist, he worked on many comic adaptations of anime and games. His representative works include "Macross Dynamite 7" and "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED".
Uryu Yukio: 2D designer specializing in game development. Lecturer at the Department of Anime and Manga at Kaisei University. Involved in a wide range of 2D design including character design, concept design, UIUX design, and art direction. Also involved in service development and running an esports team.
