Abstract

The prologue briefly touches on the definition and history of Kyo-machiya, as well as their structure and functions. Part 1 is a report on a renovation carried out by the author, who actually lives in a Kyo-machiya, using a method called "separate ordering," in which the owner himself became the contractor rather than leaving it all to a contractor, obtaining estimates for each type of work involved in the renovation, and choosing the cheapest contractor. Part 2 introduces ways to deal with the various problems the author has experienced while living in a Kyo-machiya, and how to enjoy life in a machiya.
